Augusta College Student Mary King Named Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar

Rock Island, RI  (Mar 14, 2025) – Augusta College student Mary King has been named a Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar and awarded a $1500 scholarship in recognition of her inspiring leadership, personal narrative, and academic achievement.

The Nancy Larson Foundation proudly supports students across the country majoring in elementary education by awarding scholarships to deserving students each year. King is one of eight recipients selected from the many applications received by the Foundation.

In her personal narrative, Mary explained, “At a young age, I was inspired by my mother. She was a role-model by teaching my sister who is dyslexic. She cultivated my sister’s strengths, making her feel loved and valued, while simultaneously helping her overcome her weaknesses. She guided my sister through it and also showed me how I should be as a teacher. I want to be the teacher that meets children where they are and helps them grow toward their potential. A career dedicated to helping children  grow will be a life well spent.”

“Mary’s drive to help others and desire to improve learning weaknesses is very inspiring,” said Nancy Larson. “She understands how important it is to evaluate where children are and work from there. Mary represents the type of teacher who will recognize and meet the individual needs of her students.”

Larson, an author, retired teacher, and curriculum director, has dedicated her life to advancing elementary education. Nancy Larson® Science K–5 programs are classroom-tested and prepare children for upper-level science classes and careers in science. The program was written to provide in-depth science content in an easy-to-teach format.
