Pacific Lutheran University Student Ahmira Elyard-Jaegar Named Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar

Parkland, WA  (Mar 14, 2025) – Pacific Lutheran University student Ahmira Elyard-Jaeger has been named a Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar and awarded a $1500 scholarship in recognition of her inspiring leadership, personal narrative, and academic achievement.

The Nancy Larson Foundation proudly supports students across the country majoring in elementary education by awarding scholarships to deserving students each year. Elyard-Jaegar is one of eight recipients selected from the many applications received by the Foundation.

In her personal narrative, Ahmira explained that she has always loved working with kids. At 11 years old, she became a Red Cross Certified Babysitter. She worked at kids’ summer camps, nannied, and tutored. Ahmira went on to explain that working as a teacher assistant and in Parkland Literacy Center’s Big Buddies program helped her recognize the inequities present in schools, especially for multilingual learners. She wrote, “I want to be a teacher because I believe in creating a classroom community that gives every student the support that they need in order to succeed. I look forward to honoring the humanity and potential of every student in my classroom.”

“Ahmira is very passionate about working with children. She understands how important it is to help multilingual students and be an inspiration to children,” said Nancy Larson. “Ahmira exemplifies the type of teacher who will create a positive classroom environment.”

Larson, an author, retired teacher, and curriculum director, has dedicated her life to advancing elementary education. Nancy Larson® Science K–5 programs are classroom-tested and prepare children for upper-level science classes and careers in science. The program was written to provide in-depth science content in an easy-to-teach format.
