Kechi, KS (July 30, 2026) – Kansas State University student Marcia Melcher has been named a Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar and awarded a $1500 scholarship in recognition of her inspiring leadership, personal narrative, and academic achievement.
The Nancy Larson Foundation proudly supports students across the country majoring in elementary education by awarding scholarships to deserving students each year. Melcher is one of seven recipients selected from the many applications received by the Foundation.
In her personal narrative, Melcher explained, “I always loved learning but had struggles reading efficiently. Reading was an uphill battle for me in school. Despite that, I was still able to get an aerospace engineering degree. Later I realized, after a year of homeschooling my daughter who also struggled with reading, that I wanted to teach children. I am very passionate about the opportunity to be a part of life-changing interventions for my students in order for them to reach their potential and become healthy, ambitious individuals, and members of society, living life to its fullest.”

Larson, an author, former teacher, and curriculum director, has dedicated her life to advancing elementary education. Nancy Larson® Science K–5 programs are classroom-tested and prepare children for upper-level science classes and careers in science. The program was written to provide in-depth science content in an easy-to-teach format.
