Loxley, AL (July 30, 2026) – University of Alabama student Amy Nicole Thomley has been named a Nancy Larson Foundation Scholar and awarded a $1500 scholarship in recognition of her inspiring leadership, personal narrative, and academic achievement.
The Nancy Larson Foundation proudly supports students across the country majoring in elementary education by awarding scholarships to deserving students each year. Thomley is one of seven recipients selected from the many applications received by the Foundation.
In her personal narrative, Thomley explained, “The experiences that influenced me to become an educator were shaped by my own educational journey. I am a kinesthetic and visual learner but when I was in school, teaching was largely geared towards auditory learners. This left me feeling frustrated and disconnected even when I was genuinely trying to learn. I now use these early experiences to connect with children who find school challenging. I embrace opportunities to help students, who are academically or socially at a disadvantage, succeed and feel confident in their abilities. I strive to be a teacher who creates a supportive, engaging environment where students feel valued for their unique strengths.”

Larson, an author, former teacher, and curriculum director, has dedicated her life to advancing elementary education. Nancy Larson® Science K–5 programs are classroom-tested and prepare children for upper-level science classes and careers in science. The program was written to provide in-depth science content in an easy-to-teach format.
